Transitioning into a new role within the business, I found the initial challenge was knowing where to begin in implementing a process for the team. I’ve now developed processes, implemented plans, and set goals, and knowledge about how to communicate with, and get the best out of my team.
We have been able to move forward on handling complicated business structures, hire new team members and lighten the load, so I can focus on myself and my family, whilst maintaining an important leadership role within the business.
This program has been truly invaluable and has meant we have restructured our staffing, employed new key people to move our business forward, and put in place some essential processes, future business goals and strategies.
I have implemented a lot in regards to my calendar, organisation, outsourcing aspects around cleaning, marketing and administration, particularly to help during high season periods. Personally, I started to build clear boundaries, as I did have trouble saying no.
I am striving to introduce more structure and accountability, and perhaps most importantly I have realised I am not facing the daily challenges of a small tourism business alone – I have met others in a similar position and now have a framework to reach out if required.
It wasn’t just a dot point list on leadership and how to do things. Through the program, I learnt it is ok to be the sort of leader that aligns with my own integrity and values, and apply the tools to suit and fit my leadership style.
I learnt a lot about communication and adaptability. Particularly how to find middle ground with people. I learnt a lot about how to deal with challenging behaviours with external stakeholder relationships. I really like having the program documentation to refer back to now, and have a clear pathway forward.
I never left sessions wondering what to do or what I needed to do. We always had a clear action plan at the end of each session from call to call. I always left calls feeling more confident than I went in and recognised I knew more than I thought
