I learnt a lot about communication and adaptability. Particularly how to find middle ground with people. I learnt a lot about how to deal with challenging behaviours with external stakeholder relationships. I really liked getting to know and better understand local businesses and common people management issues. I really like having the program documentation to refer back to now, and have a clear pathway forward. I also know now, I don’t always have to go forward, sometimes we have to go backward to go forward as a business.
It’s really nice to have a mentor outside the organisation, as you don't have to skirt around issues or filter communication. We could work through solutions without changing language or censoring when working with an external mentor.
