Leadership is Lonely

Whether you’re at the top or in a senior leadership role reporting to the CEO, a board, or the business owner, it can be very lonely.

Because there is a tonne to do, it never ends.

We have to keep it all together, we have to hold it in and we feel like we’ve got to keep our shit together all of the time.

That’s what it feels like.

It’s not that anyone else tells us that, it’s what we tell ourselves.

Unconsciously, at a very deep level.

Then when we don’t feel great, we get the wobbles or our wheels fall off, it’s hard.

Because we’re so busy putting everything into everyone else, it feels like no one cares about us.

And they may not.

Or they may not show it.

It’s not their job to.

They’re busy looking after themselves.

It’s the hard juggle of being a leader and wishing that you could get the appreciation and recognition deserved for the bloody hard work of being a leader.

A lot of blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights.

You might get triggered when;

Someone forgets a birthday.

Nobody puts their head into your office and ever asks “How are you?”

No one reciprocates in asking how your weekend was or seems like they care.

Others never organise things and it always seems to be on your to-do list.

The recognition or even acknowledgment doesn’t come from further up either…

The fun and joy have gone out of it and it feels like a drag, always being the one to bring the energy, joy, and solutions.

Know you are not alone.

You are doing an amazing job.

Keep the fire burning.
